Bboy Lyricx Embarks on a Global Tour to Champion African Hip-Hop and Afrobreak Culture

From Europe to East Africa and back to Ghana, Bboy Lyricx is taking Afrobreak to the world.
from June to November 2026, Ghanaian Hip-Hop pioneer, cultural entrepreneur, and founder of Africa Breaking Academy (ABA),Bboy Lyricx aka Nana Tuffour Okai, embarks on an ambitious international tour that spans 12 major cultural events across Europe and Africa. The tour is more than a performance schedule—it is a movement dedicated to artistic collaboration, youth empowerment, cultural exchange, and the continued growth of African Hip-Hop culture through the Afrobreak movement.
With stops in the Netherlands, France, Rwanda, Uganda, Benin, the United Kingdom, Morocco, and Ghana, the journey connects festivals, conferences, workshops, film screenings, creative residencies, and international dance competitions while building momentum toward the Afrobreak International Festival 2026 in Accra.

- Launching Break Nation EP at World Breaking Classics
The tour officially began in **Eindhoven, Netherlands (25–29 June) during the prestigious World Breaking Classic, one of the world’s leading breaking festivals.
It marked a significant milestone as Lyricx and Skychief officially launched the first-ever Break Nation EP Cypher, celebrating African Hip-Hop creativity on one of the biggest international breaking stages. The launch introduced a new musical collaboration that reflects the evolving sound and identity of African breaking culture.

- Building Creative Networks in Montpellier
From 28–31 July, Lyricx travels to Montpellier, France, to participate at Halle Tropisme, a renowned creative hub bringing together artists, cultural professionals, and inspiring personalities from across Europe and Africa.
The residency focuses on strengthening artistic collaborations, expanding international partnerships, and exploring new opportunities for future creative productions.

- Documentary Screening at Notorious IBE
The next destination is Heerlen, Netherlands (6–10 August) for the 25th Anniversary of Notorious IBE, one of the most influential Hip-Hop festivals in the world.
During the festival, Lyricx presents his award-winning documentary, “Roots Of The Culture,” followed by panel discussions exploring African Hip-Hop history, cultural identity, and the future of breaking across the continent.

- Returning Home for Chale Wote
Back in Accra, Ghana (13–16 August), Lyricx joins the Afrobreak Team at the internationally acclaimed Chale Wote Street Art Festival at Independence Square.
The festival provides an opportunity to merge street dance with contemporary visual arts while showcasing Afrobreak as an authentic African contribution to global Hip-Hop culture.

- Beginning the East African Tour

The East African leg begins in Kigali, Rwanda (18–23 August) during the Kigali Breaking Festival.
Beyond performances, Lyricx leads youth workshops, participates in African Hip-Hop dialogue sessions, mentors emerging dancers, and serves as a guest judge, reinforcing the importance of education and cultural exchange within the breaking community.

- Afrobreak East Africa Qualifier in Uganda
From 24–30 August, the tour reaches Kampala, Uganda, for the **second edition of the Afrobreak East Africa Qualifier.
This event represents one of the most important milestones of the tour. Young dancers from across East Africa compete for a coveted wildcard to the Afrobreak International Championship Finals** in Accra this November.
The qualifier forms part of the Africa Roots in Motion project, supported by the Goethe-Institut and Expertise France, in partnership with the Institut Français, within the framework of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture – Connects and Creates programme funded by the European Union.
West Africa Heads to Benin
In September, the Afrobreak movement continues to Cotonou, Benin, for the Afrobreak West Africa Qualifier.
The competition identifies the region’s strongest talents, with winners earning direct qualification to represent West Africa at the continental finals in Ghana.
A New Choreographic Work Premieres in Accra
On 4 October, audiences in Accra will witness a special presentation during the **Dance Festival at Alliance Française Accra.
For the first time, Bboy Lyricx and the Afrobreak Dance Company will present a work-in-progress stage production, demonstrating the artistic evolution of Afrobreak beyond battles and into contemporary theatrical performance.

- Representing Ghana at Dance Umbrella Festival
Immediately after, Lyricx travels to London, United Kingdom (5–12 October) as an invited delegate to participate in the internationally respected Dance Umbrella Festival.
His participation strengthens professional networks while representing Ghanaian dance practice within one of Europe’s leading contemporary dance platforms.

- Organizing North Africa’s Afrobreak Qualifier
From 14–19 October, Lyricx heads to Casablanca, Morocco, where he serves as Head of Delegation for the Afrobreak Northern Africa Qualifier.
The competition brings together dancers from across North Africa, with the champion securing a place at the Afrobreak African Finals in Accra through strong regional partnerships.

- Africa Roots in Motion Returns to Ghana
The tour culminates in Accra (10–16 November) with the Africa Roots in Motion Creative Residency during the Afrobreak Festival.
The residency gathers artists, choreographers, researchers, and cultural practitioners from across Africa and Europe to collaborate on new works exploring African movement traditions, Hip-Hop, and contemporary performance.
Supported by the Goethe-Institut and Expertise France, in partnership with the Institut Français, the residency continues to strengthen cultural cooperation through the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture – Connects and Creates programme funded by the European Union.

- The Grand Finale: Afrobreak International Festival 2026
The world tour concludes with the **Afrobreak International Festival (19–22 November) in Accra, the culmination of a 13-day celebration of African street dance, Hip-Hop culture, education, music, film, and international competition.
As Convener and Founder of the festival, Bboy Lyricx welcomes dancers, artists, scholars, and audiences from across Africa and beyond for what has become one of the continent’s largest street dance gatherings.
The festival showcases the winners from Afrobreak qualifiers held across Africa while celebrating creativity, innovation, and cultural identity through performances, workshops, conferences, film screenings, battles, and community engagement.
Taking Africa to the World
The Lyricx World Tour 2026 reflects a vision that extends beyond dance.
